Not too near--about 6 1/2 hours from Indianapolis to Cleveland. I have boated and fished in the western basin of Laker Erie near Put in Bay. Erie really is a nice lake. However, Erie is a very shallow lake with maximum depths of around 40'. You can really get some nasty chop out on the lake with wind and wakes from large go fast boats.

Dang JJJ, I was in Cleveland all last week on a Church Mission Trip.......but I had no computer w/ me to check the site.

Cleveland was a lot nicer than I thought it would be.

Randleman, Nipper, I should have posted I would be in Ohio sooner, I knew a month in advance, but I forgot to post this trip, I will be honored to meet you in person.
Guys, OHIO is a VERY PRETTY and VERY CLEAN place !!!!!!!!!!!!
I was amazed at how clean the streets and everybody`s yards and houses are. Most, could say 99.99% of the house`s yards were kept neat and clean. I wish WE here in P.R. were so carefull with keeping roads and yards free of trash and crap. I have to admit this, because that is one thing that hurts our beloved and beautiful island.
Lorain Port and City, are beautiful !!! On the last day there, which was a Friday, I could see many boaters hauling their boats to the Marinas and ramps. Lots of very well kept, older models of small F.G. boats, with Johnsons or Mercuy powerplants, very few Yamies or the like.
One thing I really liked about Ohio, at least where I was, is the Locals good and VERY POLITE and GENTLEMAN manners. On the roads, drivers are very respectfull and considerate, and very polite. One thing did not like was all the motorcycle riders riding without a helmet even on the highways, and I understand what freedom is, and I agree with freedom of choice, but I think riders should wear a helmet, not because is a Law or not, but because it can save your life even in the simplest and slowest fall or accident.
I always wanted to see the replicas of the Nina and the Pinta ships used by Christopher Columbus, and guess what, they where there in Cleveland City Port at the time, and I got to see them in and out and meet their honorable and dedicated Crew. They do a Master`s Job of Educating visitors on the History of the Colonization of the America`s, and the Ships are kept in Top Shape. For us boaters, a very educational and motivational experience to see this magnificent wood boats, and what they are capable of in the hands of good sailors.
I ecourage all of you to track this ships and go see them with your Family. Look for "The Columbus Foundation" site and there is a schedule of their port stops.
I will like to congratulate all of you, for keeping your Towns and Streets so clean, I have traveled to over 30 Countries and to many many places, and the U.S. is a very "Ship Shape" place anywhere you go.
