kickin around the idea

Well I'm starting here , I haven't made up my mind but am kicking around the idea of selling my pride and joy... with the economy in the tank and not looking to promising in the next few yrs , and my youngest going off to school in the fall of 2012 for the next 7 yrs... I could use the extra money for things in general......Well what I'm asking is what do you guys think my boats worth....

87 dual console.
07 200 hp e-tec (still under warranty til 2014)
08 tandem Axel trailer.
Tons of goodies..

a lot more than any of us have :hi:

seriously, i doubt you could get what the motor is worth for the whole rig right now, wait till spring time, it will make a big difference

Definitely wait until spring.
I was thinking the same thing. You have a lot of dough invested in that beauty. When you really sink yourself into something like you have with your boat, it truly is what they mean when they call it a "labor of love". Very difficult to put a price tag on something like that. Unless you can find someone that really appreciates the care you've put into that boat, you're going to take a major hit. It's totally on you how much of a hit you're willing to take.
I understand your thinking, but I also believe it's gonna hurt. You seem to have made that boat one of the family. Lot's of time money, memories, etc.
That said, after you find what the market will bear when faced with a hit, wouldn't it be nice to sell it for that reduced price to a family member. That's what I see your boat as. One of the family that should possibly stay in the family. That way you still get to see her periodically.

Just some random thoughts. Some difficult decisions to be made. I wish you well Lumber.

Waiting until spring will give you more time to think about it. Looks like you have a slip for it? Maybe just not use the slip next year which would save you some bucks.

Ain't worth a dime. Might as well keep it and take your kid out on it when he is home. Tell him to study hard and get some scholarships!

i'm with RKC and the rest....the 7 to 10K you might get for the boat aint gonna pay for half a year of college....give up the slip, winter storage shrink wrapping and the rest and in 2 years you'll save what you could get for the boat....even mothball it if you had too...no gas expense, 2 stroke oil, bait.....for what you got into it unless you needed it to save the house I would keep it.

Thanks Guy for the input ... if I sounded desperate ...sorry ... I was basically trying to get a feel for what its worth more or less.... by no means am I not getting by... I guess i was venting sort of... I'm fortunate enough to be working everyday and Sue is still teaching.

p.s. i could easily be talked out of selling my baby.

beautiful boat.... that said you could most likely get as much out of the engine as the whole thing, sooooooo sell the engine and pick up uh I dunno.... something original like say, uh, eh, mebbe, a merc 115 for cheap... have your cake and eat it too

that piece of sh!t??? i'll give you a grand all told, and i'm doing you a favor.
and listen could you drag her up here to me? and also, can i borrow a grand?
thanks.

Don't, put her on a trailer and save as said above. I am in the same boat Kenny, new motor on an older hull, nice hull but you could not sell it today for a fair price.
Keep her on the trailer, you have launches all over by you and use her.
JMHO

This is an @ss-backwards idea but what if you sold the etec and put a solid used motor in its place....put some dough in your pocket and still keep the boat. Problem is, you'd still lose money. Dangit, why can't boats/motors be a good monetary investment??

I like the trailer idea too, provided you have somewhere to store it.

I am in the same situation with my 2 daughters 14 and 12. Not only is that staring me down but my job is not likely to exist within the next 1 - 2 years. Hoping to scrape by somehow some way.........

Theres an idea. Lumber can sell me his Etec and I'll trade him my 99' 200 Ocean Pro plus cash. Just bolt on and plug in. He gets some cash and keeps the boat and I get a newer motor, win win. Now sell me that Etec Lumber.

And any seller is going to ask for a grand off the selling price to cover the cost of getting that damn "Bump Ken's" off the sides.

Yea I knew the whole money thing was a cover story because you want to move up to something bigger and didnt want to hurt our feelings.

I think you should clean it up a little before you even try to sell it... Man, that things dirty!!

You'll never get what you put into it. But just as an answer to your question, I'd guess anywhere between 6-10 grand for it, depending on the time of year, buyer, and your feelings at the time. Hell, I'll put an offer of $6900 on the board right now.,,,but I really hope you don't take it. Like the others said, take it out of the slip, make her a trailer queen. That will save you 2 grand a year right there. :head:

DO NOT SELL YOUR BOAT!

As said above, give up the slip, see if you can find someone to build a shed to keep it under, in 2 seasons you have saved what you would have gotten in the sale.

But to answer your question, I think its worth at least $16K.

NADA average retail says (with my zip code entered):

$1700 for boat
$2700 for trailer
$9800 for motor
-------
$14200 before you ad in the electronics, safety equip, ropes, and the actual condition. We all know there are no used boats as clean as yours.

Boats are the worst investment, but at least right now you have the boat though. When you sell it is when you will take the hit, negative return and no boat to use. Keep her on that sweet trailer you have. Plus you've got the Bump Kens on the side, truly a member of the family and a name that another owner will take off immeadiately. Kinda sad.
