Hello, I am new to this forum but not new to the area of boating and fishing offshore. Just picked up this boat and trailer for 2k. I would like to get the manual for this so i know what type of motor is in it and what parts is has. Any help would be much appreciated.

There really are no manuals that would be of any help to you..you would need a specific engine manual.

Yep boat manuals are a joke... they tell you to wear a life jacket and not to hit another boat.... For the engine you need to look at it... there will be a serial number and most likely a manufacturer and model number ie mercruiser 165.

To heck w/the manual...just start hangin' around here and you'll learn more about V20s than Wellcraft knows!!!...and have a heckuva lot more fun...

What they all said. Welcome aboard. and since no one else has said it yet, just remember....:thre: A picture really is worth a thousand words.

Thanks to all

Thanks guys ( and gals). It looks like a 4 cylinder with onboard heat exchanger, power steering, and mercruiser outdrive. Pics to come. I am a knowledge guy.. the more I know the more I can get into trouble.:sun:

here are some pic's

Any help would be great guys... Here are some pics for what I have.

Looks in pretty good shape...what's it say on top of the air cleaner?...one thing you'll want to do is replace the original distributor w/an electronic one...and check out the plug wires to insure no cracks...if there's any question about them, replace them...basic stuff loke close inspection of belts and hoses goes a long way...and of course the crankcase dipstick...make sure you find out what kind of oil to use...

Is it havin' any particular problems or runnin' pretty good?...

Inspect the bellows...and make sure they are in good shape...I think there is another control cable boot too...

Motor???

Thanks for the tips. What I am looking for is what motor is it??? Is it a 3.0 or 3.7 or something else????? My plan is to redo all the exterier items on the motor. starter, alternator, ignition, plugs, wires, and rebuid the carb over the winter. But I need to know what I have... Thanks for the help.

Also where can I find the cheapest prices for this stuff...

Be sure you do the electronic distributor...look through Links Section to source all this stuff out...and what does it say on top of that air cleaner?...

that is a 3.7L 165 hp engine. It has the 4" heat exchanger (the good one), and external alternator conversion(some one already did you a favor). The 2bbl Mercarb, and an aluminum manifold with a cast iron riser. first things first, check the gasket between the riser and manifold, it should have one edge of the gasket that goes straight between the mounting bosses, the other side will scallop between the bosses. If it doesn't have the straight edge on one side(indicates what gasket you have) I suggest replacing it with a factory mercruiser gasket. Second thing, do a search for pertronix ignitions, get the conversion kit, you'll thank me and every one else that recommended it later. Set the timing at 4 degrees BTDC. If you can find a large throttle body 2bbl Rochester marine carb off of an 898. 888, 200,230 mercuiser, you will be happy with the swap, if you can find a 4bbl carb/intake/oil cooler setup, you'll be ecstatic. Looks like the charging system has been taken care of. Look around the balancer for signs of anti freeze, there is a weep hle that lets antifreeze out of the cam shaft drive seal starts to leaking, . If it passes snuff, you will have good use out of the motor.

Welcome DD... good looking engine, can't add much to what spare and the guys have already said.
I have an earlier model of same engine, as already mentioned find the weep hole in the water pump housing..it's at about 7'oclock on outer edge facing eng. might want to poke a toothpick or soft wire in it to clear any crud that might have it blocked, run engine and check for leaks.
I used the Pertronix II ignition and Fiamethrower II coil. Up sized plug wires to I believe 8mm for hotter coil and gapped plugs at .040.
These engines had some weak points but with modern upgrades, which you already have most of, are strong running and economical especially if you do your own wrench turning. Any questions just ask and someone here will have an answer...great bunch of folks.
