I have recently joined the site and I must say I am excited about the wealth of knowlege available from fellow V-20 owners. I mainly use my boat for fishing in the pamlico sound and offshore around 40 miles off the NC coast. Well needless to say the waters around here can knock the fillings loose in your mouth in addition to everything on the boat. Last year I managed to work the windshield loose at the base. I think I can get some blocking to hold under the windshield in the cabin, I'm just not sure how to access the base of the windshield from above so I can drive some new screws through. The windshield will pivot if I remove the bracing. Can I access it from there? Any and all sugestions will be greatly appreciated.
P.S. - I'm running a '86 hull with a 2001 200hp suzuki.

I have the same problem. But I no what it is, it is the windsheild support on mine. It broke out thur the hole and I am going to have to make a hole new thing for it.

I have to go wash the boat rigfht now and I will look at it to see what if any access to the screws you mention.

O yea welcome to the board!!!

Ok . . . looking at the base of the windshield from the front of the windshield (looking towards your motor). You should see a long black plastic cover that can be pryed out with a screw driver. Behind this cover is a series of screws that fasten your windshield to the deck. Hope this helps!! My windshield almost came off once crossing stellwagen bank in some really nasty nasty seas. The screws had backed out and I had to to some emergency repairs right there bobing around like a cork.

Thanks alot. I know the plastic strip that you are speaking of. I just wanted to make sure that I did not remove it if I did not need to. My plan is to cut a 1x2 strip and use it as blocking in the cabin. Hopefully it will give me something for my screws to hold on to. My supports are in good shape. All of the movement is at the base of the windshield. With every wave I hit i can feel the gelcoat getting scratched and it drives me nuts. I'll let you know how the fix goes this weekend.

Hey LEE-ROY,

How do you like your SUZI??

I think you are the first on the site to run a SUZI on a V20.

Did you get a six year warranty?

What can you tell us about your SUZI?

i did the windshield repair thing last year also.after removing the plastic an removing old broken screws. l through bolted with s/s screws, lock nuts an washers .I like to use long screws. when every thing is tite i bend long end of screw with plyers and screw snaps off clean at nut . very little risk of getting snaged on screw ends.

Thanks for the advise guys. This site is the best.
SeaKindly - I love the suzuki. It came with the six year warranty and I really hope I won't need it. ( knock on wood ) The engine has an unbelievable amont of torque. It wll put you and you passangers on the deck if you are not carefull. It is not the quitest engine when idleing but then again if I wanted quite I would by a sail boat. I bought the suzi when my original motor crapped out. It was a 200hp Mariner, which I had little confidence in. The mariner smoked alot but i think i had better range since it was not electonicaly fuel injected like the suzi. The suzi also weighs about 100 lb+the original motor but the oil resevior is under the engine shrowd which accounts for some of the extra weight. All together the suzi is a great motor that I have a ton of confidence in. I plan on fishing several king mackeral tournaments with her and I know she will perform with the best of them. Oh yeh, I almost forgot to mention about speed. She is very fast. With about 4 coats of bottom paint she will still run 50+ knots with myself and the dog on board and about 1/4 -1/2 of tank of fuel. I often run offshore 40 miles fish all day and run home on a tank of fuel. I don't have much left when I get back though.

Lee Roy,
What inlet do you fish out of? My V-20 is on the hard at Swan Point Marina in Sneads Ferry. I fish out of New River and occasionally Bear. Been doing well on the dolphin but have yet to boat a king because I'm using mono leaders (get more dolphin). I'm going to start practicing soon for the Kings and plan on doing at least one tourney this year.

I fish out of Beaufort Inlet when heading offshore. Rumor has it that the tarpon are showing up in the rivers so I will be there the next month or so.

LEEROY, thanks for the info. :)

I was reading about the suzis the other day, and the concensus was that if you didn't blow a piston right away, that they will run forever. Also, if you leave the boat in the water, you should be on-guard for galvanic corrosion issues.

I also learned that suzuki is the worlds largest manufacture of outboards, just not #1 in North America.

Unfortunately, their CURRENT pricing is higher than the equivalent Johnsons.

Lee Roy I had a 1986 Suzuki  40HP on my last boat which I owned for ten years.  The only thing I had to do was change the impeller and seals.  I wouldn't  think twice about buying another Suzuki.  Good Luck Fishing Bill Mc

Was looking at my windsheild today, I don't have that plastic strip. All I have is the screws going thur, and they are tight!
I guess they didn't do it like yours on the old boats? Mine 1975

CB... howdy stranga...hows everything goin??

I think bombadier is selling low to get back the market share that omc lost. Watch their prices climb, when they do.

What kind of warranty does evinrude/johnson offer? I'm thinking of putting a E-Tec on my flat bottom skiff.
P.S. - The windshield is no longer loose. Thanks everyone.

Seakindly, all's well. Been real busy lately. Got out fishing last night slinging some eels.......produced some fairly nice fat Stripas. ;)

LR -- I dunno... I think you get 3, but can buy another 3. Although I have never bought an extended warranty on anything, it might not be a bad idea on such new (unproven for the long haul) technology as the etec. Crusher is a member that did a lot of research on etec -- shoot im a private message--tell im seakindly sent ya. ;)

CB -- I was wonderin how your dad was doin. I talked with mine on dads day and he told me that in addition to all the other meds he's takin, now he's takin junk for stage 1 oldtimers disease. I asked him what are your symptoms? He tells me. I say -- "sh!t dad, if that's stage 1, then I have stage 2!" :-/
