Mercruiser 170 electric choke

scook

God
Engine was very hard to start and wouldn’t idle down without dying. The shop says the electric choke is getting power but not working so they set it all the way open and I should be able to pump it a couple of times to start, then run it up a couple of times and I’d should idle OK. They say over $400 parts & labor to fix.

Questions:
1) Is it a simple exchange of parts to fix?
2) Recommendations for online suppliers (or Spare, what do you how much to mail me the part)?
3) Other comments or ideas?

Thanks for the help.

very easy to fix, three screws. I'll look and see if I have one. That quote sounds like they are planning to rebuild the carb. personally, down here I back them off like they did and don't worry about it, keeps from gas fouling the plugs

If I can give it a few pumps to get it going and it runs good, I’m fine with not doing anything else but if it’s a quick easy fix, I’d like to do it.

I do go out when it’s a little cold sometimes.

If you have the part halfway reasonable, I’ll buy it.

Thanks Spare
