Need to redo my cuddy

The winter up in NJ is killing me, every day I walk outside and see my poor V21 covered up and blanketed in snow. I was hoping for a mild winter but that's not happening so rather then waiting until it finally warms up to get idea's I figured I'd start picking your brains now!

I bought Ozzie's V21 back in November, I cannot tell you how excited I am to finally have a V again. The cuddy on the V21 needed to be gutted which Ozzie took care of, but now its time to finish the project. I have had multiple questions from my boys regarding what Daddy is going to do with their cabin (they actually call it their cabinet) to make it nice. Having been strictly a center console guy since I was 12 the cabin area provides challenges to me from the perspective that I really didn't want a cabin, I did it to accomodate the kids and the lady in my life.

So here's what I need. Idea's on how and what to use to refinish the cuddy. I had the local canvas guys come by for quotes on cushions...800??? Need a more economical solution then that. The lady would like a potty but I don't know where to put it so its usable... I'd like to refinish it so its comfortable for the kids and potentially an overnight in a pinch, get a potty in there and create some storage. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated! Pictures of your cuddy setup would be great too!

I think if it were mine I'd just seal up the edges really good where the wood meets the hull side so that no water can get through, paint the whole deal with something like bilgekote, then look for a set of used cushions on eBay/craigstlist/flounderpounder/etc. that may not fit perfectly but "will work".

You may already have seen pics of a stock V-20 cuddy but this is the way they finished them at least in 1986. Th long cut out in the floor is perfect for a porta potty but not sure how you would make that work with what you have. Not sure what you have under that plywood you have in there now ...maybe you can modify it. The way my stock set up is works pretty good , cut out for the porta potty, flat section for cushions and laying down and alot of storage on the shelf around the perimeter.

I thought about paint or potentially one of the truck bed liners. That would solve the aesthetics portion a bit. What was originally on the ceiling? Carpet? Afraid the kids are going to smack their heads on the ceiling.

RWilson, nice cuddy, great pics! Mine has the big well too but the portion closest to the door is filled with Deep Cycle batteries for the bow mount MinnKota. Not sure I am getting a potti in there without moving those somewhere.

.

I believe the highly technical term for that stuff is "monkey fur", although not sure where you would find that many albino monkeys. I guess the appeal to it was that it is fairly thick but at the same time pretty light as well as the backing being pretty light as well . Probably easier to glue to an upside down surface as compared to carpet which has some weight to it. I personally hate the feeling of it. and the looks aint so hot either but alas mine is in very good condition.

I missed your buying Ozzie's rig. Congrats. I happen to know where he got that plywood. I think I would have to glass in the plywood and then paint. I second the idea of getting some cushions that will work/near fits. I never liked the looks of the fabric on the cabin roof but it must be better than a knot on the head. How much time are you gonna spend in the cuddy anyway?

Great crew you got there Wilson.

I was hoping not to glass it in but maybe its not a bad idea. The cuddy really isn't for me other then storage, its really for the kids and the lady to get some shut eye/privacy for the potty.

Glass both sides of the wood?

Yeah, quite a haul huh?!?! I was thinking maybe you could email him and ask him to put fold em up and put them in a box for a little extra cash.

I'll keep an eye out for you and maybe some will turn up nearby.

Parrot - I have cushions from my 95 v21 that I never use. You are welcome to them and I live just up the GSP in Morganville, NJ. Let me know if you're interested and we can arrange a pickup. Here's a picture.

If it were me, I'd glass both sides of the wood, so I could use it for storage, then throw cushions on top. This probably crazy, but you couldn't put the porta potti in the front well and hang your legs in the second well while using it, could you? Maybe have removable shims under the porta potti up so it is level with the bulkhead when in use?

Parrot, those cushions are gonna do the trick for your cuddy!!...as far as sealing, my plan was to use a couple of coats of a good quality sealer on all, then paint...never did find a bed-liner product I liked that was affordable, but you probably have better access to stuff up there...

All that said, if you REALLY want a permanent, impregnable seal, glass will be the way to go...
