every time i turn my key on to start the motor i get a short beep like an alarm or something any ideas on what to look for or what is going on,:head:

if its a ob, then it is a self check for the temp alarm, if it is a long beep & short beep it is a check for the temp & oil injection. if it is an io, then i don't know.

That's right...dad has an '88 40 hp Evinrude with oil injection. You get a beep at the turn of the key. It is intended to let you know that the horn works in the event of an overheat or oil injection failure. If you don't hear the "test beep" at startup then your outboard could overheat without warning and fry that puppy. The beep you are hearing is likely a good thing. What is your motor?

I have a 150 Johnson that does that evey time I turn the key to the start position. Wait for all the beeps to stop, then turn and start.
