Oil spill

second day, rescue endangered species and find an antique automobile..

On average 25 species go extinct every day. With or without mans help. It's how the world works. (It's called evolution).. Just go for the antique automobile... anything without a chip in it...

Well I Just spoke with a buddy that works for Chevron in Pgoula. He said him and a couple guys ran out yesterday for giggles to check things out. From what he said he really feels this has been way overexagerated. Never seen any heavy crude just some gray soupy stuff. Said it wouldnt even stick to the boats. I hope he is right. We shall see.

you know I was just starting to get that feeling this morning watching the news....the story was about the only TWO birds that they have found with oil on them and cleaned up and released over in Vero Beach on the atlantic side.....hope it turns out that way....keep our fingers crossed

BP had a meeting here today and was offering $1200 dollars a day + fuel for boats to help with the cleanup. i was thinking about working for them for 10 days, then tossing them the keys & the title and going boat shopping. i don't know whats the scariest, the oil coming from the gulf , the lawyers from all over, or the feds.

Sounds like I need to come north and go to work.

LOL I have a 22' Cruisers that I'm about to scrap out with a sweet 200 Merc on it. The boat's still very seaworthy.. If I was retired I'd be signing up tomorrow morning.. but, alas, I'm still working...so it's a nice dream but that's all it is for me.

And yes, I'm also tired of seeing the same few oil covered birds over and over. I wonder how long it will be before the news companies start covering birds with oil so they can "report" about their plight.. :cen: :cen: :cen:

not looking good folks. A buddy thats a charter captain hit it only 13 miles out yesterday from Dauphin Island. "They" estimate it being here in the next 24 hours or so. Our way of life on the coast is about to change horribly.

This sucks. Seems like they are trying to "save" the well.

Anyone know more about the Russian's early recommendation of using a nuke to seal it? Granted i've read a lot of opinions including it being devistating to the area, but realistically what is worse?
Others say it will open the well more...

Not being in the oil industry i'm not sure if this would be feasible.

No nukes in the Gulf please. There are enough things dying out there as it is.

What I have never understood from the beginning of all of this is why nobody positioned a tanker out there and put it to work collecting the oil/water as it comes to the surface. Instead, they loaded the oil with dispersant and allowed it to drift on top of and underneath the water to its hearts content, wherever the current took it.

To nobody's great surprise, this latest adventure with the saw only seems to have made things worse. The diamond wire saw got stuck after a couple of hours of cutting and it took them all morning to get it loose. Now there is a new hole in the riser pipe, just beneath the original gusher, dumping what looks to be double the amount of oil as before, and the geniuses have given up and are babbling about Top Hats again.

So thanks BP. You really blow.

They were talking last night on the news about the possibility of "imploding" the well.....first thing that came to my mind was imagine if the F that up? instead of a 20" hole gushing oil will have a 100 yard diameter hole gushing oil.

With each attempt at fixing the problem, they seem to have only succeeded in making it worse. When they clipped the bent riser pipe off the BOP yesterday with the giant shears, it looked like the flow more than doubled.

So far I have not seen a lot of progress with the AssHat that they put in position last night but supposedly they are not done messing around with it either. We shall see.

Its ALL a dog and pony show. The death due to the dispersents they are using will be reaped by my great grand children. They are just "looking busy" untill the time comes in AUGUST (WTF?) that they can attempt a relief well drilling. They care nothing about what they have done and only about saving this site. The operations they are attempting are ludicrous to say the least as far as the oil industry goes. They KNOW its not going to work...just trying to look busy. Im PO'ed beyond belief right now!!!!

Watch for yourselves...its a JOKE!

The BP CEO wants to get his life back to normal. I think that a-hole should go to jail when it is over. He is ultimately responsible and I doubt the money loss and fines won't directly cause him much pain in the end.

I heard "They should stuff the pipe with BP executives" but that won't work because sh*t floats.

I too would be going berserk if that crap was coming to shore near me. I feel for ya.

Hate to say it, King, but at the rate that thing is still gushing even with the cap in place, that oil is destined for the gulf stream and just may make its way up the entire eastern seaboard!
