Saturday Port Royal Sound, SC

Pulled the V20 up to Hilton Head Saturday with a friend. We have never been before and want to check out the annual cobia run(thanks Whatknot!). Got to the ramp early and beat the crowd. Caught bait off the beach just in time to have 16 boats behind us pull up and scatter the school. Anchor at the spot and chummed up a couple Atlantic sharp nose sharks. One hour later cobia on and off at the boat. He was really big and had 2 with him. I pitched a bait to the others and hooked up. Gaffed him and onto the ice 37". Never had another run but it was one of the prettiest days on the water in a long time. That marsh and estuary is different than ours. The same but different. Green colored seawater all the way back to the ramp. On the way back into Skull Creek we stopped to watch a HUGE sea turtle to see if he had hitch hikers.....when I got back on the throttle 2 more cobia shot out from under my starboard side at the helm.

It turns out Wellcrafts make great water parks. I think I found out where the water is coming in at.

Cobia

Blue,

i just saw your pm on there whereabouts of the Skull creek ramp. I see you found it!!!!
Saturday was nice and I have been waiting for a day like that for a long time. I had a art gallery meeting that I couldn't miss. Pissed off, I drank a lot of red wine there. Kept seeing cobia in my drink.
The water in the broad is much better than ours for sure. Where did you fish in the broad? I haven't been able to get there yet and it's killing me.

As I understand it, Later on in the season, they stage at the "Betsy Ross" wreck before heading out. Some never leave the wrecks. We'll have to hit it sometime blue.

Congrats

It was rough in the morning and then as the tide started out it got slick. We started where you told me, in the sound in 50+ foot of water but it was too much for the anchor to hold. We moved to the Paris Island rip and got on it perfect......catching greenies under the boat and fishing them out the back. That's the way to fish live bait!!!! Many boats....especially the ones that anchored directly in our chum slick. I was blown away by the number of boats you could see up river at the bridge.

Rough

I'm glad you picked a good day to go blue. I don't know if I had mentioned before that the broad on opposing current and wind is absolutely brutal.
