scared sh!tless..........

so I was diagnosed with diabetes about 5 years ago. one of the wonderful things my dad left me. tried to control through diet. no good. tried to control through half suggested dose of pills. no good. finally listened to my doctor and took the pills he told me to, but my eating was pretty much out of control. well, I went for my 12 month eye exam and got a pretty good scare. the retinologist, who's a bit of a jerk, tells me 'you have diabetic retinopathy. you could be legally blind in 5 years. see you in 6 months'. so immediately I drastically changed my diet and watched every little thing I put in my mouth, and I've been pretty good. so I went to a retina specialist this week and the exam was 50 times more comprehensive. well, he told me I didn't have retinopathy but I did have a leaky blood vessel in my right eye. he wants to see me back in a month and if it gets worse he wants to give me AN EYE INJECTION!! yup. an injection in my eye ball. this is a very scary prospect for me. he says i'll be wide awake and it wont hurt at all. I cringe when they give me eye drops. I cant imagine what this will be like!?!?!
it seems the golden years aren't all that golden after all!

welcome to the club. guy might have been a jerk, but he got your attention and you reacted in a positive way.

I'm with you on touching the eye, freaks me out...

I need to go to the doctor to have cataracts removed from both my eyes. Yep.. scares me no end. But the funny thing is I was injured in my right eye about 20 years ago. They put some drops in my eye and I didn't feel anything while they scraped the cornea to remove some metal shavings that were embedded in there. Truly, it's totally painless and you really don't feel anything, plus they dilate the eye so everything is fuzzy so you can't see anything either. I know it sounds gross, but it really is a lot better than it sounds. :head:

Yep, nothing can scare you quite like the thought of not being here tommorrow. I know I had to change my life a few years ago, but unfortunately my weight is still a big problem. Getting old aint for sissy's, my problem is I'm not really "old" yet, so I'm really not looking forward to getting "old".

a few years back I had a clogged tear duct which had to be scooped out of my lower eyelid. It was pretty scary waiting for the needle to go in for anesthetic. They put a contact lense in my eye so I wouldn't see it coming, but **** if it didn't hurt like he11!! Good luck Charlie, let us know how it goes

yeah, I didn't think I was that old yet either. sh!t, I aint even 55 yet. there was a long stretch when I didn't take care of myself and i'm paying for it now, sure as hell.
