steering cable question

Dual console v20. steering seized. pulled the cable #ssc6214. Before it seized I had some snap crackle pop under the wheel. Im thinking of replacing the helm and cable. Do I go with Teleflex or something else? its not fun to pull the cable, Had to cut it. Going to pull the shaft the motor pivots on to put new one back in.

Go hydraulic, no question, once and done.

I prefer the Marol brand of hyd steering, the helm/pump uses 2 bearings instead of 2 bushings.
What it cost me for a dual cable nfb set up the first time was within 200 of the hyd system. Cables worked great for a couple years, but gradually got stiffer each year despite keeping them greased.
My .02, worth every penny.

I didn't look into hydraulic but sounds expensive, ill check it out. I found seastar 4.2 rotary for $188 extreme nfb for $208 and safety II for $ 215. Just have to decide which one.

The nfb works good on my skiff, the hydraulic on the V20 is like steering a luxury car compared to the regular cable I had before. I would replace the helm and cable if you're doing the work.

Im happy with the steering but not happy with the install. It didn't fit right. On the old helm, the shaft was offset. New one is centered. I had to cut a hole in the fiberglass so it would fit. Not fun getting the outboard side in either. Had to do some modification there too. Maybe it would work better on a cuddy? Mine is a dual console. I have a 2x4 hole I will have to glass over just above the door. U really cant see it unless u r crawling around the floor. But if u r doing that u probably are not worried about it anyway!
