Anybody got any ideas how to loosen the lower unit oil drain plug in an outdrive? Its your standard flat blade screw. Damn thing won't come lose and I am nervous as hell about causing any internal damage by heating it up. Ive used a ton of WD on it don't seem to make a difference. Thanks

impact driver, you know the thing you hit with a hammer that spins the driver bit, you can rent one from the local auto parts store, I think harbour freight sells them pretty cheap, Sears has them for $25(?)

I have taken a hammer and a small blunt chisel, and tapped the slot in the direction the screw need to go to come out. heat won't hurt either, there not anything around that screw inside that you can damage with heat( as long as its not excessive)

wd40 isn't helping get some Kroil to get it loose and use a map gas torch heat up just the drain plug it will expand from heat and loosen the threads then re kroil and then use the hand help impact screwdriver to get it out it will come for sure.

Hitand hit hard!! It will go! Just make sure you wet it good!! I use the Kiro that skools uses but PB Blaster is good also, heat it up re spray let cool and hit it like you would hit a 19 year old virgin!! She wil losen up!!

The above sugestions should do it for you...you could also place a piece of brass over the screw and tap it in a couple of times, solid and short taps and try again, remember righty tightty lefty loossy.

Like the others said. soak with P B Blaster for at least 30 min, Tap straight on with 1/2 in. brass rod . Then angle a large screwdriver in the counterclockwise direction to the slot and tap. It should come on out. If not tie a rag soaked in penetrating oil onto it and leave a few days, then try again. Its a really short screw. When ya get it out sling that b***h a flying!!
:bat:

Don't forget to get new washers for both screws!! and new screws if you damage the that one. A little anti seize and you be good for now on!

screw removal

I had the same problem. the problem is you cant get enought presure on the screw and turn it the same time go to a dollar store near you they sell a srew driver that looks like a T handle and comes with differasnt bits believe me you can put pressure and turn it the same time it works and its a good tool to have

Well I got it out!!! Soaked it for a couple of hours in PB Blaster. Than used a impact driver i picked up for $12 at Pep boys. It took atleast 10-15 shots to get it loose but no damage. So all in all everything went well. Thanks for the help guys.
