Successful Maiden Voyage

That's right, I burned about 10 gallons of gas cruisin around on High Rock Lake yesterday evening. ;D It was a real rush to drive the V20 after so much work and anticipation. The 140hp performed well. I didn't have my GPS unit with me but it felt like top end was around 30 or so give or take a couple. :-/

Friday night me and the little lady went to Bass Pro Shops in Concord NC. I bought a lot of stuff:

- Uniden VHF Radio (white)
- 3 new docking cleats
- bow and stern lights
- 2 white LED strip lights
- 4 new plugs
- 4 new bimini mounts
- snap replacement kit including snap plier (bimini)
- lighted 6 switch panel w/ fuses
- 5ft bilge hose (already have a pump)
- 2 new white docking bumpers
- in line fuel filter

Wanted to buy these also:
- stainless destroyer steering wheel (not in stock) :'(
- 4 new 30 degree flush mount stailess rod holders (they had only 1) :-/
- gas lines and 3 way connector (didn't know how long) >:(

Saturday I got quite a bit done. I did a final patch job on some of the screw holes on the boat. I used rubbing compound on the hull below the rubrail, then came back over it with a good wax. Changed the oil in the lower unit. I cut a dash panel "covering" out of the 1/4 inch starboard I bought. Temporarily mounted my controls for the test ride. Did the pressure washer thing to my saddle tanks according to the instructions given on an old post. After all of the water drys out, I'm gonna put about a gallon in each tank and swish it around real good and pour it out to get any remaing flakes and gunk out. I think I got it pretty clean already.

Today, I need to order some awlgrip paint, the steering wheel, the rod holders, kicker mounting bracket and anything else I can think of that I might have forgotten to mention. :P

3 1/2 weeks left to finish this project...will I make it in time? (lets hope so)

Wow, congrats BR. Did ya wet a line or mark any striper activity? C'mon man...don't hold back! ;)

Fillet, dude, you are readin my mind. Pic pic pics and more pics. What my friggin problem? I could've got some good pics. I had my bro in law drop me off at the dock before we took her out so I could inspect the rollers on the trailer. Meanstwhile homeboy did a few doughnuts to see how she'd take her own wake. I got to see it from the shore. Boat looks good.

I love this boat. I like the center consoles but it wasn't even a consideration for me cause my family and because I'm a wuss and don't like the wind hittin me in the face :P Plus, the windshield, top and some clear side windows would be make boating (did I say boating? meant to say fishing :o) delightful even on a cool windy day :)o

I bought one of these deals online today:

109.00 before shipping. Can't wait to put it on!

After reading about awlgrip painting I'm scared to try it myself. I guy up the road paints cars and does a real good job. I've been thinking about asking him to hit the topside with some primer and a couple of coats of paint.

Realizing, that wasn't the pic you were talking about Fillet, I'll try to snap a few for ya this weekend. I hear they're calling for 70 degree temps here in NC. Can't wait. I'll probably put in Sunday morning and run it all day. Might even have the fuel tanks back on by then. The water has dried completely out. Taking my finger on the inside of the holes I can feel grit in some spots on the inside of the tanks. I think putting about a half gallon of gas in each and swishing it around every once and a while for a day or so, then dumping and repeating if necessary should do the trick. Any words of wisdom on that? Won't my inline fuel filter catch that if any decided to mix with the fuel?

Thanks,
The Bluest Runner

CONGRATS A LOT!... :) ;) :D ;D 8)...nothin' like puttin' it in the first time...the boat, that is ::)...glad Maiden Voyage went well...some are more "interesting"...

BR...watch that suicide knob on fast turns while standin' up!...can be a real cod knocker... :o...

What's your tach-o-meter sayin' at WOT(light load, trim it up til it hurts...just a little)...you might be able to get a little more w/different prop....

RAP, I don't have the tach hooked up yet. I have a tach guage, but don't know the first thing about hooking it up. Is it just a wire or two? I've had outboard motors for about 6 or 7 years now and never have had a tach. I really would like to hook it up though.

About the knob on the wheel, the NFB steering should keep the cod knockin to a minimum hopefully ;D

Me and my brother in law wired up my trailer lights last night. Things are moving right along...

Wish I could tell you where that tach hooks up...bet somebody around here can, but til you do it's gonna be hard to tell if you're spinnin' the RIGHT prop...I just believe you can get a little more than you posted earlier... :D

Thanks for the help RAP ol buddy. Truth told, I don't really know how fast I was going. My brother in law - king of exageration - swears we were runnin 35, but I'm not that optimistic. I'll find out for sure this weekend when I go out with the GPS installed ;)

Congrats!!!!!

But I am so Jelious!!!!! It was 19 here last night with wind to 50 mph with driving sleet!!!

It is 20 right now with wind to 25mph from the NW!!

MJ...stay in the house...like I gotta tell ya... :)

Yeah, BR... GPS won't lie(or exagerate)...knowin' your speed is important, but we gotta find out how many RPMs your 140s spinnin' up... ??? ;) ;D

Hey I am in southeast Ga. Where about is this lake in NC i have some land up there just north of forest city. All i do is fish salt water and would like to come up that way and fish for some good ole linesides. congrats on you maiden run i know what you mean when you say you love that boat i have had several boats but nothing touches my 89 V-20.

Hey, Knightfisher...there's Lake Norman close to Charlotte that's a pretty good striper hole...log on to www.lnssfishn.com for info...it's a striper fishin' club there and those guys will tell ya anything ya wanna know from access to how-to...to howdy-do... ::) ;D...just don't out-fish 'em...some of them ole boys might not take too kindly to it if you know what I mean... ;)

Hey, BR...that guy looks like he's got it goin' on...Never fished LN, but that would be the guy to get started with...I like what he says about leanin' things to use on your boat...lotta guides covet their info more than that...I think it hurts 'em in the long run...

Thanks for the site... ;D
