Took her to the shop today

I went down to my boat to check on her. I started her( hard to start. Crank. Crank. Crank ) then she started. Once started she runs great. So what I did ,I took the cowl off and looked and listen to hear the fuel enrichment worked, I heard it click but I also seen a fuel leak coming from the back of the fuel pump. Leaking where it connects to the block. I don’t know if it’s the fuel pump orv@ fuel line. But I’m wondering if that could cause hard starting? I was going to try to fix it myself but I said this is a job for a mechanic who has the right tools an$ knowledge. To bad Spareparts doesn't live in nj. He would be my go to guy. For sure

It’s been 10 years since i worked on my 150 2S, but that was a pretty easy one to service. I always knew mine was getting weak when while trolling the motor would start dying out. I would have to go back and give it a few pumps on the primer ball.

Hope this cures your problem.

Hey phat, how much do you think the bill is going to be?
1st option. A leaking fuel line at the pump ?
2 nd option. A bad fuel pump?
I don’t know what it is yet but will let you guys know
I hope spare gets in this conversation.
I would like to know what he says. Only because he still works on outboards. I think?

IF that’s all they do, shouldn’t take more than a half hour. Diaphragm kit USED to be about $15.00.

I am constantly surprised at what things cost nowadays, so I’ll say $195.00. Some shops have a 2 hour minimum

I think it’s only held on by 2 bolts in the block, then it comes apart by two more bolts. Pull old parts and replace with new parts.

Pretty easy.

I will let you know I’m guessing $500.00. I know the parts are not expensive but they are crooks. All of them. If I get a 500.00. Bill I will let you know. Let’s see who is closer.

Do you think that since it was hard to start on the initial startup it could have been the leaking fuel pump? Once she started she would start on the first crank fast but not when sitting for a week or two.

I hope it fixes your issue, if so, it was worth it.

I had Merc 150 2S from 91 -95, came with my 83 V. Then 95-2015, i replaced with a 150 Mariner 2S. They were both finicky when cold. After warm up, just bump the key and she’d start right up.

Let us know

Step, I watched my friend do fuel pumps on his 150 Johnson and then his 200 Evinrude - It look easy - But I wasn't an outboard guy - I had an I/O in mine - I'll check your progress out in the repair section - That's how I knew you were having a problem - Good Luck - I guess no one is fishing - I don't see any reports popping up - I wonder why?

Yeah phat that’s how mine is. After the first start. Just tap the key. But what I don’t get is I watch these shows on people buying old boats and motors some just like my motor and the guy says. Let’s see if I can get her started. The motor has been sitting for 5 years or maybe longer. He turns the key a few times and she starts up. Cmon man. Give me a break. How can that be. I always service and take care of my engine and if she sits for two weeks it’s hard to start. Maybe now she would be better since I had the pump fixed

My old 175 mercury was a pain. It would run great on the hose. Take it to the wster and sometimes it would run good, next it would run like crap. My brother inlaw has it now and says it runs good.
