Was thinking of a new seat\pedestal...

If you remember, I just got my V20 last fall and took it out 4-5 times. Got it from my shorter brother-in-law who always had the "low profile" bimini up. When I took it for a test ride, I was uncomfortable as I had to crouch down to keep my head from hitting the bimini. Therefore my thoughts were to get a new pedestal that would height adjust.

However seeing that this wasn't an issue with the bimini down, I am thinking about scraping this project to save time, frustration and money. I am afraid that to get a decent quality adjustable pedestal, it may be big bucks.

I wanted a new seat because the one on there is just the solid kind with no cushions. However, I think I was OK with just a flotation cushion there.

So today, my thought is keep the seat\pedestal as is. Keep the bimini down, only use it for emergency rain or quick shade when fishing.

OR, is this something that I would never regret doing? Maybe just a new seat?

thanks!

keep the seat and save your pennies for a full size bimini you can stand under and then add full enclosure after saving even more pennies.

Sounds like fixing the symptom rather than fixing the problem?

I agree with RW on this. For the money you'd put into a seat/pedistal combo you could possibly find a better bimini?

Of course I did find a good deal on eBay for my new seats ($100 per seat w/cushioins for brand new Todd 1000 cape cod models). But I already had the pedistals. I don't see that guy's listing out there any more so maybe that deal has expired.

The bimini I have is in just about new condition and has the side windows, just hate to see it go to waste...

I remember those chairs, had them on my watch list but either I deleted it or it aged out. Should have bought one then...

Just had he idea of modifying the one I have to be tall...

Edit: nevermind, that wouldn't work as there is no front support brace.

I installed 2 new seats on my V a couple of years ago. I purchased a seat pedistal with swivel mount used at a "boat junkyard" for $20 and painted it white. I got these seats for around $100 each. This type of pedistal can be cut off to length/hieght.

I have had many seats since I started boating and I have never happy!!

In the V, I always liked standing and driving and only wanted to sit when I was fishing, but could do that sitting on the gunnel. And hell there was a lot of room with no seat there!

In the Ox I have had a couple of seats and I am still not 100% happy.
I never sit when driving so I like it out of the way, my current seat base will slide forward and backward and the seat drops out of the bottom and is like a leaning post. But with my fat azz its a bit tight LOL
I now turn the seat around facing the back of boat when driving and lean on the back of it, that seems to work good for me but I do need some more cushion there.

I have had the adjustable up and down post before and had a hard time keeping it tight enough to stay at the height I wanted, again because of my slender tummy I am sure!

I know what you mean on the adjustable post. Just bumping along and wham! you go sliding down LOL

In my first boat on 2 different occasions the whole pedistal pulled through and sent 2 different passengers straight on their backs!! :you:

I'd say the deck was just a tad "soft" :zip:

I still have been going back and forth on this. Even with the good advise so far, I thought I still would like an adjustable seat so I could look above the windshield. But that still probably wouldn't happen. I bet I weigh more than you do, so I would need a real expensive pedestal.

I also like to stand while driving, but I like the ability to sit quickly if I am coming up on some large waves.

I like the idea of the flip up boat seats, but those are big bucks.

I think the best thing is to give it a full season before spending time and money on something I may not be happy with anyhow.

Thanks.
