Yet another question...

I see the compartment in the deck next to the helm as a fish box.  I have two problems.  The first is that it is now occupied by the oil reservoir for the outboard.  I'd like to relocate this under the helm seat.  This shouldn't be a big deal.  

My second problem is the drainage from the fish box.  I put a hose in there and it seems to drain directly into the bilge.  Is, or should there be,  plumbing underneath there somewhere?  I don't like the idea of fermenting fish juices stinking up my baby. I'd rather hook up a pump and send 'em back to the sea.

No plumbing, just nice smelly blood to the bilge, use some water and have the bilge pump it out, then rinse when you get home!.
Thats what I do , I have two fish boxes!

Tuna, Ihave the same dive gear storge locker as you do. ;D.
My box seat had a drain hose that dumped to the outside of the hull on the port side. I relocated it, so it would drain into the the box. Yes, you have a piece of pvc that is used as a drain and it runs under your fuel tank and straight back to the bilge area. I asked the same question last year. My storage box was completely filled with water and wasnt draining.

Thanks MJ. That is not the news I was hoping to hear. If there is no plumbing connected to it I'll probably install a small pump and run tubing to a rear scupper that is not being used.

Hammer you posted while I was typing. I'll look for the tube. I have Friday off (Ceasar Chavez Day) and I get to spend the whole day working on the boat. I'm freakin' giddy about it.
 
mine was originally wired for a macerator pump. just no longer there. the pump would spit out next to the bilge thru hull at the stern starboard side ;D
 
My '88 has a similar fishbox. There is a drain that goes directly to the bilge (which gets plugged), but there is also a bilge pump with a hose that exits near the top rear of the box. The hose then routes above the tank and eventually connects to the same starboard hull drain as my rear floor drain. Works great.
 
Tuna...suggestion...insure drain-line Hammer mentioned is clear and use 1st season as MJ said above...although my set-up is different, he described the same way I do mine...he says ''rinse''; what I do is more ''flood'' and there's never smell or other nasties to deal with...a cup 'o clorox if needed, then flush again...if it doesn't work out that way, install a macerator in the bilge at the end of that drain-line, then plumb from that to outside...it'll shoot 10' from the hull ;) ...
 
Its a dam fishing boat for god sake!! Its supose to smell!! Thats what gives it Mojo!!
Sometimes there are flys and bees all around mine and my wife starts yelling, thats when I know I have to clean it :-[
Sometimes there is just no time to clean!! You get on the fish for 3 or 4 days 8 hours then off to the market to sell, and home you have a 12 to 15 hour day and the next morning it happens all over again, so why clean it?

Once a week when the fih is biteing!! ;D

Is it a trade secret where you fish and for what? I assume somewhere on the northside. No fear, I do not go often enough to steal all your catch.
Also, a buddy of mine (Peter Jasin, not sure if you know him) suggested I get a commercial hook/line license and write off all my boat expenses.
 
I also have a 800 gph bilge pump in the box with a switch mounted on the dash. The water is pumped through a thru hull, not into the bilge. I keep the plug in the bottom to keep the mess out of the bilge when I have fish and ice in the box. When back in port, I clean the box and pull the plug for any rain water to escape. Does anybody know if this box is insulated?

I am thinking like you are on that box, but I am leaning towards using it for storage instead of fish and using a cooler for fish, that way you can sit on it and you don't have to unload the fish from the box into the cooler when your done.  Elemenate one thing to clean.

Another thing that is leaning me towards not having liquid in that box is the big hole on the starboard side in the rear (where my pump hose exits the box) that will allow whatever is in the box to spill onto your gastank top when you punch it to get on plane.
