Bluvr, I did what MJ says there (removing it completely) and I had a teak bow pulpit already. Makes anchoring sweet and easy.
And on your other comment, I am no ballerina myself. MJ on the other hand is svelt and gracefull. :
But the point I wanted to make is you do NOT go forward on your cuddy roof to anchor etc. Instead you slide th hatch all the way forward and you walk into your cuddy and do it. Very easy and very secure, in fact you are not even bent over at the waist to pull etc.
Now you can duck walk with your feet on the sides of the cuddy well or you can do what I and others did and cut a piece of 3/4 wood to fit that floor opening. There is a lip all the way around the top just for that. Paint it white and put a 1" diameter hole in the end closest to the cuddy door so you can stick a finger in there and lift it out.
With this set up you can walk all the way forward with the hatch all the way open. You can even fish and cast from there as I did sometimes while handling the helm and other guys fishing off the back.
